One Rifle, One Steady Hand
A WWII German paratrooper in a tan field uniform with loaded ammo pouches, rimless helmet, a spare side cap and a wooden 98k bolt action rifle.
The Story
He was never the loudest man in the platoon, just the most patient. While others sprint for cover he settles into a quiet window above the square, rifle resting on the sill. He counts his breaths, waits for the wind to drop and works the bolt without a sound. By the time the company pushes through the village, the rooftops are clear and he is back on the street in his side cap, looking like nothing happened.
