The Story
The longship scrapes onto the gravel beach before the village bells can ring. Twelve raiders leap into the surf, horned helmets gleaming and round shields painted green and red. The chieftain in gold shoulder guards points toward the hall on the hill. Axes come up, spears level, and the war cry rolls across the water. By nightfall the songs will be about their victory, or about how they ran. They do not plan on running.
