The Story
Snow settles on the capes of the imperial guard as they form up at the palace steps. Each gold tabard shows the black two-headed eagle, the old sign of an empire that stretches past every map. The captains wear closed great helms. The line soldiers wear broad kettle hats and hooded nasal helmets. They have stood this post through three winters and two sieges, and tonight they will stand it again, swords ready.
